Assistantships and Fellowships

Financial support may be available through Research Assistantships (RA’s) or Graduate School Fellowships. Fellowships are granted to students with very outstanding academic records. It may also be possible to obtain financial support toward a research assistantship through our new Coordinated Program in Plant Biology. For more information on this program, please look at the website http://www.botany.wisc.edu/plantportal/ and additionally http://www.botany.wisc.edu/plantportal/coordinate.html

Program Assistantships and Fellowships

We ask that your application be complete, including GRE scores, by December 15 for the Graduate School Fellowship competition. Research Assistantships are awarded by individual professors through funds available to their research programs. While there is no specific deadline for applying for these assistantships, they are quite competitive and early applications may have a better chance of competing for these funds. The stipend for RA’s is currently $18,120 for 12 months and includes a tuition waiver and fringe benefits.

Monsanto Assistantships

The graduate program in Plant Breeding & Plant Genetics (PBPG) at the University of Wisconsin is accepting applications for research assistantships towards the MS and PhD degrees. These assistantships are funded by Monsanto to support graduate students in plant breeding and cover tuition, health insurance, and a competitive salary. For full consideration, applicants should complete the on-line application by December 15, 2008. Applications received after this deadline will be considered for other sources of financial support.

Please be advised that you do not need to make a separate application for financial support as your admission application will also serve as an application for an assistantship. There is no deadline for RA applications.
